Hopperstad Stave Church Replica

Visit this life-size replica of the Hopperstad Stave Church that still stands in the village of Vik, Norway today. There are only four life-size stave church replicas in the United States. This one stands outside the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, Minn. Visitors can walk around it any time for free, but to see the glorious interior, visitors must pay admission to the museum inside the Hjemkomst Center. Built in 1998, the church includes beautiful carvings inside and out done by church-builder and wood-carver Guy Paulson. The interior can only be seen with a guide who provides interpretation at the top of the hour. The church is closed to the public Jan.-March and is open for tours April through December. In early July of 2024, the church will be closed to the public for exterior re-staining.
