Traditional Fiddle Tunes from Agder with Gard Nergaard
November 2 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am PDT
$40.00Join Norwegian fiddler Gard Nergaard to learn traditional fiddle tunes from Agder in southern Norway! You’ll leave class with new tunes for your next jam session, and you’ll learn nuanced fiddle technique that will help you for years to come. This class is offered in conjunction with Vesterheim’s “Hand Me Down the Fiddle” exhibit and a great way to connect with Norwegian music traditions to begin commemorating the 2025 anniversary!
Gard will teach the class on Hardanger fiddle, but players of all instruments are welcome to join. Participants using a standard fiddle can choose to transpose up a step or use a violin capo (available for purchase from a variety of online vendors).
Gard Nergaard is a fiddler and hardanger fiddle player hailing from Mandalen, the southernmost valley of Norway. From a very young age, he has been known as an inspired ambassador for the unique repertoire from his home tradition. His solo debut album Seint Var Det Om Kvelden in 2015 presented the fiddle tradition from this area in its entirety for the first time. Recently he has been working in Sweden as well as Norway and recently released the acclaimed album Tillflykten with fiddle duo Alvina & Gard. Another album will be released in September with Kalejdoskop Trio.
